{ kageyama tobio x reader | coffee shop au }

---

She could only be thankful for the fact that he was currently the only one in line; if there were other customers, she would have hell to pay to her boss. A few people were sitting in the tables provided by the small cafe, having whatever they were doing placed in front of them, but it was obvious that their attention was not on what they had came to do, but on the interaction between the barista and the customer.

"I told you, sir, that we don't accept Starbucks giftcards," the [h/c] haired girl's left eyebrow twitched in annoyance, her small hands curled into fists on the granite countertop in which held the cash register and all the fancy tech machinery on top of the dotted surface. If she could, she would make the man's blood boil by just thinking about it, but alas, she wasn't a witch.

The old business man clearly wasn't pleased by her answer, and she could tell by his appearance that he didn't want to take no for an answer. Pretentious prick. "But, I have a Starbucks gift card. And you're making coffee, therefore, I can use it." Never before had she wanted to slap someone so much. Not even her [little sibling]. Not even them.

A groan of frustration escaped her lips, and [Name] turned back to the other boy her age, who was currently making another batch of cold brew coffee. "Kageyama. Help me, jesus christ." The setter stiffened at the usage of his name; never had he heard someone so irritated snapping out his name, other than his mother. Holy fuck, did this customer have to be a shithead to make the (somewhat) sweet girl blow a fuse.

The ravenette walked over, confusion on his face. "What's wrong, [l/n]-san?" He blinked once for a moment; and it was obvious that he hadn't been listening.

She gave a smile, and he could only shiver as she did so, as she slammed her hand down on the counter once again. "Please explain to this kind man that we cannot take Starbucks giftcards because we are not Starbucks." [Name] clenched the hand that was on the counter into a fist, and Kageyama couldn't help but shudder. She was definitely pissed.

"Sir, we don't take Starbucks giftcards," he said, his voice unwavering, staring the business man down. If worse came to worse, he would give the man a smile. (Which, he had been told on more than one occasion it was downright scary as fuck, especially by [Name], which didn't do anything to boost his ego. Nothing like being told by your cute co-worker that your smile was scary. There goes any movie romance he had in mind. Not like he watched those. No, of course not. He was only in love with volleyball. Not anything else.)

The old man made a grumble that sounded more like a trumpet than an actual grumble. "What do you mean?"

[Name] glanced at the clock, an annoyed sound escaping her pretty pink lips before she ran a hand through her [h/c] locks, slithering past her co-worker to work on the batch of cold brew coffee he had previously been working on, before moving onto the brightly coloured iced teas. As soon as Kageyama stepped in, the customer seemed so more compliant as compared to when he talked to her, and it pissed her off to an extent that wasn't even feasible to comprehend unless you were her, in that moment. "Listen, sir," Kageyama hissed out through clenched teeth; his own temper about to blow a fuse. "If you're not going to pay with a giftcard that says Sunny Bunny Cafe or with your bank card or cash, please just leave."

The customer's face turned a bright red in embarrassment, as he snatched back the plastic card, storming out of the cafe. Kageyama's eyes lingered (read: glared) at his form as he left, the supposedly cheery bells sounding more like a death hymn to the somewhat boring, but quiet and relaxing day Tobio had. He hadn't heard them sound so aggressive, if that was even a thing.

The customer was always right his ass.

---

"And so this asshole decides that he's going to hit on me, right when I'm taking his order," [Name] chuckles out, sipping on her [favourite flavour] iced coffee. "Like what the shit? No, you have the personality of a soggy paper towel," she took a sip once again, using her pinky to point at Kageyama, "and I have ten other people's orders to get to."

The setter had an amused look on his face, that much was clear. "So what'd you do?" He cleared his throat uncomfortably as [Name] tossed him her apron, and they hung it on the hooks near the metal sink.

"I didn't do anything. I couldn't, because," [Name] put the collar of her peter pan blouse up, and scrunched up her neck, and he recognized it immediately---she was imitating their boss, "'the customer is always right, darn dibbly nabbit!'" She said in a gruff voice, before bursting out laughing, getting a chuckle from the other boy as well, as the girl fell silent.

That was practically the first time she had seen him laugh, and holy moly was he cute.

"What?" The flush from his own happiness soon faded when he noticed [Name]'s gaze on him, and he looked away from the intense stare from her [e/c] eyes.

She was quick to notice her own staring, though, and she quickly cut it out. "I mean, jeez, I just need a break, you know? Between school and here, I just need a time to relax. Preferably with someone so I won't get lonely, but you know." [Name] slid off the counter of the cafe, shrugging, before slamming the cup into the waste bin. "I'm just rambling, though."

[Name] walked past Tobio, swinging the keys to the cafe on her index finger, and towards the glass door, seeing the reverse image of a bunny in a teacup, before she swung it open.

"You ready to go, Kage--"

"[Name]-san, would you like to go out for a cup of coffee with me? It'll help you relax and then you won't be lonely!" He had bowed over, but even from the distance they were at, she could tell he was blushing a lot.

A small smirk played onto her chapped lips. "So like a coffee date?"

"I-If you'd like, yes!" His voice raised in volume, and he could feel his body trembling in excitement at the idea of being able to take her out on a date.

"No."

His heart dropped to his stomach, as he stood up straight, his eyes on the ground.

"You're so silly Kageyama, why would I go on a coffee date with you? We work in a cafe. We live, breathe, and drink coffee everyday. How about a movie with you?"

And [Name] could not deny that the smile on his face, was indeed, very cute.
